The preparation room

Vice President: make your experience clear.

Connect execution judgment with client and team responsibilities.

Educational guidance, not current vacancies or a universal career ladder. Titles and responsibilities vary by firm. Examples are fictional illustrations, not actual candidates or ESP placements.

Responsibilities to clarify

  • Transaction leadership
  • Client communication and relationship development
  • Supervision, coordination, and quality control

What your résumé should make clear

  • Distinguish leading execution from originating a mandate.
  • Describe your role in resolving a transaction challenge and the result you can substantiate.
  • Explain the sector and geographic context of your experience without disclosing restricted client information.

Fictional example bullet

Led the execution workstream for a municipal financing, coordinated internal and external participants, and translated financing alternatives into a clear client discussion.

Use this structure, not someone else's experience. Replace it with work you actually did and can explain.

A useful résumé outline

  1. Name, city, contact details, and a professional profile link.
  2. A short summary of your function, market experience, and relevant strengths.
  3. Experience in reverse chronological order: employer, title, dates, and evidence of your contribution.
  4. A separate, permission-safe transaction summary when appropriate.
  5. Education, tools, and accurate current credentials. Verify any role-specific licensing requirements with the employer.

Questions worth asking

  • How are origination and execution weighted?
  • What resources support the role?
  • Who owns the client relationship and how is credit allocated?

Before sharing: remove client-confidential information, personal identifiers you do not need to disclose, references' private contact details, and material your employer does not authorize you to share.
